The International Baccalaureate requires proficiency in a variety of media; one of which is commonly photography. My theme for this collection of photographs is Pockets of Warmth: A Winter in Canada. I've tried to depict warmth in many ways: in the smile of a friend, in the hue of an image, and even in remembrance of what was.
Looking Left
With this photo, I wanted to show the simple beauty of a girl's face.
Minju's Legs
So often, women are reduced to nothing but objects of sex. This photo is my commentary on how we perceive women: nothing but a body without a face, without a personality.
Snowflakes
A photo hated by my instructor, this is one of my favorites. I captured these snowflakes by accident while adjusting the focus on my camera.
Sophie's Coat
This image displays balance in the vertical and horizontal lines, as well as the symmetrical pose.
Sophie's Skirt
This photograph was included in my final exhibition: Femininity Through Form. With this photo, I wanted to emphasize the contrast in color, texture, and shape between the trees, coat, skirt, legs, and snow.
Poppy
This perspective shot was taken at the World Wars I & II memorial at my high school in remembrance of the students we lost.
Dean's Arch
It is one of snow's greatest gifts to highlight the color in a cold world. This photo is an example of framing as well as contrast in hue.
Bare Legs in the Snow
This photo is an example of contrast in idea rather than visuals. I also wanted to emphasize the skirt and legs as a symbol of femininity.
Snow!
This whimsical photo shows the warmth of winter: fun with family and friends.
Snow Bank
A tell-tale sign that winter has come is the first snowplow. This snow bank displays both texture and one-point perspective.
